Course Description: AP Art Portfolio is a, full year course, for grade 12. The prerequisite for this course is a minimum of 2 years of art with a "C" average or higher, or approval of the art department chairperson. AP Art Portfolio is an advanced placement course for the talented and industrious student. Curriculum content revolves around research and study in any art related area which fulfills the student's own interest. Students must choose a focus in 2D, Drawing, or 3D art. Students will apply techniques learned in the prerequisite courses. The course objective will be to develop an art portfolio of student work to enable the student to be accepted into an art school of their choice. Emphasis will be on developing knowledge and understanding of art history and art criticism. A portfolio is required by most universities and art schools that offer professional programs leading to a B.F.A. degree. The student's art portfolio is reviewed by university faculty to determine admission into the School of Art and bestow art scholarships. Art Portfolio is designed to be taken as the student's last high school art course. The focus will be the preparation of a suitable portfolio which will contain 10-15 examples of the student's best original work. Each student will be required to exhibit examples of work created during this class in a Senior Exhibition. *You may take this class for Honors credit.*
Overview Of Course: AP Art and Design is an advanced placement course with college level expectations. In this course you will spend the entire year creating art for a portfolio that you’ll submit to College Board for credit. There is no test in this course. The portfolio is the end goal. All of your portfolio art will be tied together with one unifying theme that you’ll choose. As an AP Art and Design student, you’ll develop and apply skills of inquiry and investigation, practice, experimentation, revision, communication, and reflection. Units: The AP portfolio consists of two parts with 2 rubrics. Part 1 - Sustained Investigation The artworks in this section must be a connected series of art all exploring one chosen point of inquiry. You will create a question to investigate and explore over the course of the year. The goal is to create a mature series of art that demonstrates focus and growth. This is what we’ll put all of our focus on this year. Part 2 - Selected Works These artworks are intended to show off your very best and technically advanced art. These artworks can be 5 of your best Sustained Investigation artworks or they can be relatively random unconnected artworks that show off the best of your art.
